HiMap Accessibility Statement

As inclusion is Hassell Inclusion’s purpose, we are committed to making HiMap usable by all people, whatever their abilities or disabilities. HiMap is currently being released as a minimum viable product (MVP). Accessibility has been considered throughout development and the platform’s accessibility and functionality continues to be improved as new features and feedback are incorporated.

Find the right assistive technology to customise HiMap to your needs

While HiMap has been designed to be usable ‘as is’, many people are likely to get the most accessible experience by customising their computer, tablet or smartphone to suit their individual needs. For example, you may wish to:

  • have content spoken aloud using a screen reader
  • increase text size
  • zoom content
  • adjust colour and contrast settings
  • use alternative input methods or keyboard-only navigation

If that sounds useful, we recommend visiting WAI’s How to change text size or colours (external site) to learn how to use the accessibility features already built into your device or browser.

If you have any difficulties customising the site to your needs, please contact us at resources@hassellinclusion.com.

About HiMap

HiMap is an accessibility maturity platform that provides diagnostics, assessments, reporting, recommendations and planning tools to support organisations in improving their digital accessibility maturity. The platform also has functionality for organisations to manage their users’ and organisation profiles.

HiMap is being released as an MVP and accessibility improvements remain an ongoing part of development.

Accessibility testing has included broad accessibility reviews and reviews with people testing with screen readers. The primary browser and screen reader combination used during accessibility testing has been Chrome and NVDA.

Limitations of HiMap's accessibility

We have designed, developed and tested HiMap to be accessible. However, you may find some accessibility limitations which we are working to fix.

Screen reader use in tables, search and filtering tools

Some areas of HiMap that contain tables, search results and filtering controls may provide more information than necessary when used with a screen reader. Some filtering interactions may also be more complex than they will be when optimised.

Maturity Scorecard

The Accessibility Maturity Scorecard currently has some accessibility limitations affecting screen reader and keyboard-only users. Some controls may require more keyboard interaction than desired and some dynamic updates may not always be communicated as clearly as intended. Users may also experience challenges moving between the scorecard and the surrounding page content.

Page display at high zoom levels

At 200% zoom and particularly at 400% zoom, some users may experience navigation and scrolling difficulties when using the Accessibility Maturity Scorecard or some of the more data rich areas of HiMap such as Your Action Plan.

Using the browser Back button during a scorecard assessment

Using the browser Back button while completing the Accessibility Maturity Scorecard may result in previously entered responses being lost. When entering information into the Scorecard, we recommend using the controls provided within the Scorecard itself rather than browser navigation controls.

We are aware of these issues and are continuing to improve accessibility as HiMap develops. Accessibility issues are prioritised according to user impact and are being addressed as part of the ongoing product roadmap.

Getting help

We want to ensure everyone can get the benefits of HiMap.

If you experience difficulty using any part of the platform, we can provide support and alternative ways to complete tasks.

Depending on your needs, we may be able to:

  • help you complete tasks within the platform, for example we can work through the Scorecard with you and enter responses on your behalf
  • provide the Scorecard questions separately in an accessible format
  • share report files and dashboard exports with you

These support options are intended to provide an alternative route while accessibility improvements continue.

Let us know if you have difficulties

If you find anything in HiMap difficult to use or have any feedback about the MVP version of HiMap please contact us at: resources@hassellinclusion.com

To help us understand your issue more quickly, it would help us if you provide the information advised in  “Contacting Organisations about Inaccessible Websites“. All constructive feedback regarding the accessibility or usability of HiMap is welcome and will be carefully considered.
