Accessibility Maturity Services towards ISO 30071-1 Compliance

Accessibility goes far beyond WCAG compliance. Success comes from embedding accessibility in technical processes and behavioural change.

Our Accessibility Maturity Services are based on compliance with the Digital Accessibility Standard ISO 30071-1, to help organisations strategically embed accessibility throughout their structure, and into their product creation process, enabling them to progress from good to great in digital accessibility.

Our unique approach provides a clear framework, applying our expertise and experience to your organisation’s existing accessibility practices, to create a transformational program that matches your aspirations, size and culture.

Our expert-led benchmarks and self-serve Scorecard measure where your organisation is in its accessibility journey, and help you plan where to progress.

The 3 stages to getting ‘ISO 30071-1 Ready’ are outlined below. Discover how we’d deliver a tailored solution for your organisation, and contact us to find out more.

Stage 1: Benchmarking & Building your Accessibility Business Case

Making the case for accessibility is essential to secure commitment, ring-fence funding, and gain momentum.

If you’d like an immediate measure of where you are now, you can take our free ISO 30071-1 Digital Accessibility Maturity Scorecard, which gives you a quick maturity score and tips for where you could focus to improve. It’s a great starting point for your internal conversations, and for talking with us to help your accessibility planning.

Our expert-led, comprehensive Benchmarking Service goes deeper to take stock of where you are against ISO 30071-1 best practice, and uses our expertise to develop the roadmap for your improvement. This 360-degree review of your maturity accelerates awareness and buy-in from senior stakeholders, helps you shape a compelling message on accessibility benefits for the organisation, and delivers a prioritised action plan.

Stage 2: Bridging the gaps to maturity

Unlike traditional accessibility maturity models, we recognise that the journey to success is multi-faceted and not a linear process – the reality of business is the need to deliver results whilst building foundations. We see 4 common needs from our clients that we help them resolve:

1. Delivering Accessible Products

Often clients come to us with the urgent need to make their website, app or SAAS accessible, to make sense of complex audit reporting, and to put processes in place that ensure delivery of an accessible product every single time.

2. Building Team Capability

We often find clients have pockets of accessibility excellence, but are compromised by a lack of understanding and bad choices in other areas. Our rapid accessibility skills assessment survey, covering 7 common roles in digital teams, helps prioritise and scale training for impact.

3. Embedding Organisational Accessibility

Our support for clients to address ISO 30071-1’s requirements to embed accessibility across the organisation’s policies and ways of working helps them continuously improve their practices, so accessibility is delivered in an efficient, measured way.

4. Building on Success

Helping our clients to understand and measure the positive impact of their digital accessibility work is key to driving them to further wins. Communicating accessibility successes (both internally and externally) drives success and builds credibility for work achieved and yet to be done.

Stage 3: ISO 30071-1 Compliance Auditing & Monitoring

Accessibility is never done. Teams are trained and accessible products are created, but staff churn happens, and technologies are always advancing.

So we help our clients set in place mechanisms to audit their progress against ISO 30071-1 compliance, and practices to respond to the changes before they happen, to ensure organisations stay great at accessibility once they’ve achieved it.

What’s the current State of Accessibility Maturity?

With so many organisations publicly committed to accessibility,
why is the delivery of accessibility so inconsistent?

Our research report – An Immature Response? Why organisations are failing to build digitally accessible product and services – reveals what’s hampering accessibility progress:

  • 47% of organisations do not have a digital accessibility lead at board level
  • 35% of organisations involved in our research said they would launch digital products with known accessibility issues
  • Just 14% check that digital products created for them by external suppliers meet their accessibility requirements
  • Just 5% of organisations deliver digital accessibility training across all employees
